Toni: I'm not afraid to eat, but I'm cautious. Shopping smart is the best way to avoid contaminants/chemicals in your food. Organic, hormone and chemical free eggs, meats and dairy products are available in most grocery stores, although they are slightly more expensive. Likewise, stick to organically grown fruits and vegetables, and always, always, always wash raw foods thoroughly and cook meats/eggs completely. Also, watch out for fruits and vegetables imported from other contries--imported grapes, for example, are usually grown with DDT! Many dangerous chemicals that are illegal in the US are still used in developing countries, where most of our imported product comes from! Imported food is only spot-checked for these dangerous chemicals! Also, prepared foods are filled with sodium, hydrogenated oils, preservatives and other nasties. . .it's much healthier to cook your own.
