My tolerance lately has been low, as I am sure most can sympatize with, but I think that this is out of line for a professional to call his patient sweetie or hon. Maybe you can just joke w/ him next time, "ha ha ha, hey... my name is Chris, not sweetie." Laugh, but look him right in the eye when you say it so he knows you mean it. That way, he doesn't get defensive, but maybe this would put an end to it. Whatever his intentions are for doing it, ANYTHING that makes a patient uncomfortable is not acceptable behavior.
