Bowel obstruction and severe iron deficiency

I am a 23 years woman, and have suffered from bowel obstruction since I was 14 years old. In 1996 April, I had another bowel obstruction which resulted into two bowel surgeries. The first one was unable to resolve the episode. This led to my second surgery which eventually turned out to be a bowel resection. Around 5 ft. of my small bowel was removed at that time. Everything seemed to be fine until Jan. 1998. I got tired and dizzy very easily. Then, my doctor sent me to have a blood test. The result showed that my hemoglobin level was down to mid-60's while my iron level was down to almost 0. Then, I started to take iron pills to boost up my iron level. The doctor also conducted some tests on me which showed that I still had an incomplete blockage within my small bowel. There was a narrowing somewhere, and the loop of bowel in front of the narrowing was dilated to 9cm in diameter at times. Yet, since I have experienced no pain, and have held my weight pretty well. Both the gastrologist and the surgeon decide that there is no need for surgery. Things seem to be going well until Decenber 1998. I had another bowel obstructon. This episode resolved over 3 days. However, just two weeks ago, I had another bowel obstruction. This time my doctor decided to play safe, and kept me on TPN for 9 days in order to have my distented bowel to rest and to return to the normal size. I had taken several blood tests when I was admitted to the hospital, and the test result showed that I was severely iron deficient again. I am just wondering if there is a causal relationship between bowel obstruction and iron deficient? In addition, I am wondering if there is diet which will help me to prevent obstructions from happening again?
