Re: Monday...From: Melissa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Jan 14 11:40:24 1999
I don't think a doctor will be upset with you for coming to him for a second opinion. I have had male and female OB/Gyn. I have liked the male one's better because they seem to believe in the severity of the pain I am in. (Some female ones compare to their own periods). What do you want from this doctor? What kind of treatment do you want? It is important for you to do your research. Look at the studies on excisional surgeries by Redwine and Albee. Look at the original research done on Lupron or Depot Provera or whatever drug you are considering, so that you can make an informed decision. (Search medline for medical journal articles) Ask your doctor how many patients he has with endo and what are their current treatments? Are they satisfied with their treatment? Can I talk to one of your patients about their treatment? It is important for you to decide what it is you want out of this visit. Go in with a game plane, and don't leave until you are satisfied with the answers! -----Original Message----- From: Kyriannis, Dorothy [SMTP:anonymous@obgyn.net Sent: Thursday, January 14, 1999 10:34 AM To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Monday... Well, ladies I have my third appointment with a new doctor on Monday. Since I don't have e-mail at home, I wanted to ask you all a few questions and be able to get responses before the weekend. I am nervous, first off because the gyns I have seen so far have been females, this will be the first male dr. and I am uncomfortable about the whole thing. secondly, how do you all handle the situation when you are going for a second opinion? I have copies of my sonograms and know that the two dr. I have gone to already suggest a lap. How do I walk into a third office? What do I say? Do I just give the sonograms say I'm here for an exam (except for a pap smear b/c I had one a month ago) and describe the pain? Or do I tell him I'm there for a second opinion. I don't know if the 2nd dr. I went to was pissed off b/c I was there for a 2nd opinion or if she was just a plain witch. I hope you all can understand what I am asking. What do you all do when you go for your drs??? You can e-mail me privately if you prefer, either way I won't be able to read your responses after 4:30 EST on Friday. I know I'm being a pain in the neck, I'm just so nervous and I don't know where else to turn. Thanks in advance. ~Dorothy Garden City, NY dkyriannis@amex.com
