maybe endo??From: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Jan 12 09:08:50 1999
Ok. I have a question that I cannot find the answer to, so I am looking for some help. I have been having pelvic pain for 9 months and am on BCPs. Other symptoms include tiredness and diarhea with my period. The pain seems to get worse with my period, also. I went to my obgyn yesterday and she suspects endo. Hence, my questions: 1. She wants to do a barium enema study to rule out diverticulosis or other GI problems prior to a laporoscopy. Is this normal procedure? 2. Can she treat me medically as if I have endo without doing the laporoscopy, or is it desirable to definitively diagnose endo before treating it in any way? 3. Would a more conservative approach be to try a different BCP and see if the symptoms go away? If the symptoms did go away, would that mean that the endo (if that is what it was) is better and I am not risking becoming infertile? I am 28 and DO want children, so whereas I don't really want any surgery, I also don't want to be infertile if it can be prevented. Any help you can give me is great. I am seeing a GP for a second opinion and if he concurs, then I would get a referal to another obgyn to see what he/she might suggest. I thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
