aerobic exercise articleFrom: Christine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Dec 31 10:58:19 1998
I just checked out the aerobic exercise article and found it very interesting (there was a typo in the url. It should read http://www.endohouston.org/exercise.html I am puzzled about two points. 1. The statement that intensive exercises releases two autoimmune suppressants. I have read a theory that endo *may* be an autoimmune disorder. So, if exercise releases these suppressants, then you would think that exercise would improve endo for this reason. 2. The statement that intensive exercise increases estrogen and progresterone levels in the body and may cancel out benefits of drugs that are used to lower these levels to improve endo (i.e. the GNRH antagonists such as Lupron) I thought intensive exercise lowered estrogen levels in the body by lowering fat levels. It requires a certain amount of fat in the body to have menstrual cycles. This is why some athletes who do intensive exercises and women who suffer from anorexia don't have menstrual periods. Once the fat levels drop below a certain level, menstrual cycles stop. I wish I understood this better!!! Chris S.
