I think I may have finally found a board that can help me sort out my different health issues. I have had problem periods (heavy and long) for over three years. My original gyn (not very sympathetic) gave me provera (yuck) and when that didn't help, did a D & C. When that didn't help, she put me on oral contraceptives. The longer I took them, the sicker I got. I made it almost 6 cycles. When I went off them, she essentially said there was nothing she could do for me. I went the natural route for about a year, then developed bad pain on my right side. I had an ultrasound which showed cysts, possible endo, etc. I had a lap in Nov 97. The gyn drained some small cysts and removed some adhesions but said there was no endo. The pain didn't go away but when I told her that she said the only thing I could do was take more oral contraceptives. She told me I was just was having anovulatory cycles and that my eggs were 'old' and that's why I was having problems. (I was 37 at the time) The pain didn't go away but I wasn't going to call the totally unsympathetic gyn back so I waited until the pain was totally unbearable before I went back. Thankfully, my gyn was out of town and the gyn I wound up seeing was much better. I wound up having another lap - this was Valentine's Day 98. I had two large cysts on right ovary, numerous adhesions and some endo on my uterus. My right ovary and tube were removed and all the adhesions and endo cleaned up. After the surgery the pain went away but still had problem periods. My right side pain came back in June and then they told me I had a cyst which had ruptured on the left side! I was finally diagnosed with a submucousal fibroid which I had removed hysteroscopically in Oct. 98. I also had a partial endometrial ablation at the time but was retaining too much fluid and bleeding too much to complete the procedure. I had three shots of lupron prior to surgery. The wierd thing was that my pain on the right came back - this was when I was on lupron. I had the dr look laparoscopically when I had the surgery in October- but there were no adhesions on that side. Well, of course, the pain on the right side has not gone away but since the dr ruled out adhesions, I went to see my internist. She thinks I have IBS, which I do NOT believe I do. I had a barium x-ray (yuck) and a CT scan. The only abnormal finding that she mentioned was an enlarged uterus which could mean fibroids. I have had gastrointestinal symptoms, bloating, diarrhea, etc., but fiber 'therapy,' made it worse. I am now taking 600 mg ibuprofen 3x day for pain, which does help, but I am at a loss of what to do next. It seems that many women with endo also have gastro symptoms and have had lots of gastro tests too. the dr said the next stop would be a colonoscopy, which I think would be painful, gross and a waste of time. Does any of this sound familiar to your experiences? I'm REALLY at a loss of what my next step shoud be-
