Toni-pain, barium studies etc.

Hi Toni:

I'm not surprised that the barium studies did not show anything. I know I sound like a broken record, but my general surgeon said that would be the case unless there is complete obstruction. Now you would think even if there was partial obstruction it would show up but this is what he said and as a surgeon he must be called on a lot for consultations on abdomens. Also, you can be obstructed at one time and not at another. The small intestine keeps moving and an obstruction could be relieved on its own. This is why they sometimes hold off a little before operating. They sometimes resolve on their own-if the small bowel moved enough during digestion it is possible that it got out of the kink it had been in. So unless you were actually obstructed at the exact time you were drinking the barium, it is possible that nothing would show. Frustrating-you bet. What was your pain like when you were having the test done?

Maybe the CT scan will show something.

I think Kimmi's recommendation of the pain management clinic is a good idea. These people are specialists on pain. If anyone knows how to deal with it, they will. I doubt your insurance company will deny it. If it allows your gyn to direct your health care and approved so many surgeries, I really doubt it is going to turn down the pain management option.

You have to start exploring these other options or you are going to go nuts, or end up really depressed.
