frustrating?From: Christine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Dec 31 06:50:01 1998
You know, after I posted this I thought maybe I better post again with an explanation on why I did! Some might have though Why is she posting aboout this on an endo forum ? :<) I just wanted to point out that men too have problems when it comes to adhesions and have the same frustrations. I personally believe that men are taken more seriously when it comes to pain complaints than women are. My husband is routinely prescribed Tylenol #3 when he has a cough becuase "it hurts his muscles to cough a lot." The first time this happened we were seeing the same doctor. When I complained of a sore throat that hurt more than any other sore throat I ever had in my life (turned out to be strep which he had never tested for because it didn't *look* like strep-I changed docs after that) he asked me "what do you want, narcotics?" On the other side, sometimes when men do complain of pain they are regarded as wimps. That is what happened with this man I'm describing. The nurse taking care of him that night was not sympathetic. Even his wife looked a little embarassed. I don't know what happened to this man because once they are transferred off our floor I no longer have access to that info. But since he went to the OR and then a surgical floor I am assuming he probably had a laparoscopy. I don't know what they found but I would be very surprised from his symptoms if they didn't find adhesions. As I said, this was not something the docs thought of right away! Chris S.
