Re: Endometrial AblationFrom: yenta (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Dec 30 23:11:21 1998
Linda, I claim complete ignorance on this particular subject, but if you pose these questions to the "Q&A with doctors" at womens-health@obgyn.net, I'm sure one of the physicians may answer this for you. (To the left of your screen, directly above our endo@obgyn.net women helping women, you shall find the "dr site"). Let us know what you find out! I thought endometrial ablation was a technique used to thin the endometrial lining of the uterus so as to result in lighter menstrual flows (periods) and perhaps less cramping. I don't really understand the relationship between having an endometrial ablation and endometriosis. With endometriosis, one has endometrial implants OUTSIDE of the uterus (in the pelvic cavity - where one's ovaries, tubes and bowel reside!). Endometrial ablation would seem to affect only the INSIDE of the uterus (to alleviate the heavy periods). If she indeed has endometriosis, an endometrial ablation is not the answer (in my ever so medically uneducated opinion!!!). She, like the rest of us, needs to have a lap where the surgeon excises the endo from her body. Make sure she sees a specialist.
