Re: pain will not go away!From: kim (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Dec 30 19:47:14 1998
Toni, I can so relate hon..Pain management has been very good for me..I have spent years going from one doctor to the next and your right. If you look at me i look like an normal 31 year old..But my body is screaming in pain..I do so agree with that statement if you are not keeling over they don't believe you are really in pain.and so many doctors have a hang up over pain meds..I have done some serious research on pain meds and how addicting they are..They kept saying i would be addicted to the demerol..Now i have been on for 3 years and not addicted.I have gone off them for weeks/ month at a time..it sucks i can't stand the pain, but i am not addicted to them..They said pain patient use pain meds in moderation because they donot want to run out of them before their time is up,They did say if i was to stay on the meds for longer I would become addicted to needing more pain meds to control the pain..because that dose my body would get use too..Which it is doing it now.. But PM was great they know you have to be in pain to visit them, and they don't give you a huge song and dance about the meds..They do require you do try other alternatives well mine does..which have been doing.they wanted me to see a chircopractor, exercise and other stuff. these things are more of a trial and error bases. He said give them a few weeks not months.if they don't work then that is not a fix..but they will keep me on the pain meds while i try these things..That is also why i am opting for the surgery because i don't want to be on pain meds forever if a surgery will fix me lets go..but the doctors won't do surgery on me for adhesions anymore unless their is a blockage and it becomes dangerous..so make sure when you go in there, you let them know about your pain and don't hold back..if you must write it all done where it hurts hurts when you do this that and other things..its best to be prepared..They tried the cortizone injections and neurotin and few other treatments so be prepared that they will want to try different things to see if anything works... Hang in there sweetie..I am pulling right there with you..
