Weight Changes Due to EndoFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netWed Dec 30 11:46:40 1998
Hi All, I have read several posts regarding the gaining and losing of weight due to endo and would like to add my two cents, if that's okay. I have never been overweight, but did begin gaining weight due to endo. I went from 120 to 140 and this was devastating for me. My Dr . told me that a woman with endo does produce far more estrogen than what is normal and that is what makes you FAT. It makes your body store more fat, especially in areas around the waist, hips and thighs. And of course, we don't like that. So her solution was to use natural progesterone along with Evening Primose Oil. Progesterone is suppose to keep your body from storing all that fat from the excessive estrogen and keep you from retaining too much fluid before, during and after menses. Evening Primose Oil contains essential fatty acids (EFA) that your body needs along with gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) which increases your metabolism and the rate at which fat is burned and is highly effective for weight reduction (I got this info from The IRCS Journal of Medical Science). I have been taking Evening Primose Oil and natural progesterone since my fifth lap on August 19, 1998 and at that time weighed approximately 138 lbs. It has now been four months since my surgery and the beginning of taking the progesterone and Evening Primose Oil, and I can happily say I am back down to 120 (I'm 5'8" and for me this is the way I want to look, although my Dr. says I should weigh a little more). Also, just so you will all know, I NEVER changed my eating habits to lose weight. I don't eat beef and am basically a vegeterian other than chicken so I can contribute my weight loss to this combo solely. If anyone has any questions, just e-mail me and I will be more than happy to answer. Although all treatments out there are not for everyone and do not work for everyone, if you think about it, common sense should tell you the more estrogen you have the fatter you will become and as we all know, women with endo do produce an excessive amount of estrogen compared to a typical woman. LOTS OF LOVE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL !!!! XOXOXOXOXO Love, Kelly Tucker
