Re: after lupron?From: anonymous@obgyn.netFri Dec 18 18:31:49 1998
Kathy Mc Cullar - I had 3 months worth of Lupron but it took about seven months for the side effects to go away completely. Obviously it's a temporary fix but not a cure. I'm now taking natural progesterone and a variety of supplements, including magnesium which seems to be helping the cramps. I guess I'm fortunate because I don't have pain every day - maybe just half the time - and it only gets really bad when I have my period. At that time I take Naproxen Sodium 550 mg. I will admit that I take them every 3 hours instead of every 8 hours. (My doctor said this was okay. The pharmacist said that I'm already taking the double-strength version. It doesn't always work, anyway, but it's great when it does.) I also think that modifying your diet and lifestyle and herbal treatments are a viable alternative. Have you tried talking to an herbalist or reading up on alternative therapies? I've had this disease for a lot of years and don't think drugs are the answer for everyone. Obviously, surgery hasn't helped a lot of us either. At this point, I can predict when I'm going to have a really bad month just based on what's been going on in my life the month before. So I'm trying to work on the stress, stressful foods, and anything else that might help. Good luck! Maureen
