Hi Lisa: You are so right that every one is different, and I, too, like to hear the positive stories as well. Re the HRT - in all I've read, I gather that most doctors go right into HRT following hyst for endo. This is my impression anyway. However, there is still a number of doctors who do as both ours did, and hold off on this regime for awhile. Before I had my TAH/BSO, my doctor told me that he would recommend 6 mos of depot provera (post surgery) as a further precaution to erradicate the endo. He called it the "cadillac of treatment". After that, he said he wished to place me on HRT. Anyway, I had my surgery, and my doctor felt that even though he felt he was *very* thorough in removing the endo, he still recommended the Depot PRovera. I declined, because of all the nasty stories I had heard; I told him that I took his advice under consideration but did not want to go that route. I told him at that point that after 6 mos or so I would consider the HRT, and that suited him. Anyway, Lisa, here I am l-l/2 years later and still not on replacement therapy. It is my choice - I know that my doctor would prefer me to go on it, as my family's cardiac history is rather grim. However, my cholesterol levels are good, my blood pressure is good, and I exercise regularly and try to eat properly; I take Vit E and Calcium + Vit D, along with some other herbs. I really feel great, have an occasional "warm flash", and don't suffer from the myriad of symptoms which I know can really make life miserable post hysterectomy. As long as I feel this way, and everything stays this way, I will forego the therapy. I guess I look at things like "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". If things go awry, then I will indeed go the HRT route. Anyway - sorry for the long post! I sometimes wonder if anyone else out there has such an easy time with the "surgical menopause" thing. I'd love to see their stories, if so! Also, Lisa - glad you are feeling well after your surgery! Remember to take it easy, even though you are feeling really well. Recovery from LAVH is apparently easier than the abdominal surgery, that is for sure! But you are still recovering, so be careful. Hope your recovery continues to be smooth.

Be well, Jean
