I have filed for SSI because I too have a terrible time staying healthy enough to work. I do have to say though that it is taking a long time. I filed in August and have yet to hear from anyone. My aunt who works at SS told me that it does take about 3 to 4 months. Just call them and they will interview you over the phone. There is a lot of paperwork to fill out. For me, the interview came about two or three weeks after my initial call. Then, it takes about 3 to 5 days to receive your applications in the mail.
