Re: Question about pain killers

Jenny, i don't know how your doctor is, but I talked to mine about a pain managment program. Chronic pain seems to be one of the hardest pains to get rid of and if you keep a level of pain meds in your system it seems to work best. I take a low dose of oxicontin, which is like a long acting percocet. I take it every 12 hours, 2 pills a day, and found I was taking a lot less percocet or tylenol with codiene. I feel alot less tired with this too. This way I take 20mg (lowest dose they have) 2 times a day, and if the pain gets really really bad you can take the tylenol with codiene ( or a pain med with codiene in it), for breakthrough pain. I found I very rarely have to take a breakthrough pain pill. Usually the only time I take one is when I do too much at one time. I'm not saying that it takes the pain away completely, but it does make it bearable. There are other long acting/breakthrough combo meds out there. You can talk to your doctor to see what works best for you. Hope this helps. Valarie
