Dear Anne,

Have you ever looked into the benefits of natural progesterone? It has been helping some women with endo symptoms. I am one of them. The good news about natural progesterone for you particular situation is that natural progesterone is not harmful to your infant and, in fact, beneficial to your infant's brain development, if you use it to help control your endo while breastfeeding. Even low-dose BCPs have estrogen content, and synthetic at that, and there are so many cautions for the synthetic progestins in those drugs... your son doesn't face major harm... but no doctor can guarantee you that the BCPs won't be harmful. They use the disclaimer word... probably won't.

Anyway, I'm sure you had that discussion with your doctor. You can even start the natural progesterone while on the low-dose BCPs if you decide to give it a try. There are some 5 or so books written about natural progesterone, but there are two in particular that discuss infant brain development and progesterone's benefits to infants and mothers. If you want the titles, just ask.

Congratulations on your baby boy bundle of joy and your commitment to breastfeed him, despite your need for pain relief. I admire your sacrifice!

Sunshine, Lorianne

Dear everyone, Thank you very much for the info and encouragement about the endo. I am currently breastfeeding my son and on low dose B/Cs. I cant really take anything good for pain without it affecting him. I plan on nursing him for probably another year at least so I guess I am just stuck. My doc is very encouraging and willing to go the extra mile but he also is very pro breastfeeding too, which is great. So I guess for now I will just try and muddle through and drop by the endo chat when I can. Thanks again.

Anne N.
