Hi endo sisters. There still seems to be some confusion in regards to ultram. Ultram is a narcotic. It is thought to be less addictive than other narcotics but addiction and withdrawl are possible. It is not a controlled substance. All other narcotics are controlled substances. Many doctors think that it will be changed to a controlled substance in the near future because of its addictive properties. Its effectiveness is comparable to that of aspirin or acetominophen with codiene or propoxyphene. It is used for moderate to moderately severe pain. All narcotics can cause a release of histamine which causes the itching. So more than likely if you have itching with one you will experience it with all off the narcotics. They also all cause constipation. Anyone started on a narcotic on a regular basis should also be put on a stool softner to avoid this side effect. Hope this helps. take care.

Michele
