Hi,

I've suffered with endometriosis for more than 10 years now and have tried many many treatments, including Depo-Provera, Lupron, several different BCPs, herbal remedies, laparoscopies, etc. the list goes on. I made a decision a few years ago to see a specialist. This doctor was a pain management doctor, but he specialized in pelvic pain and had worked with a team of doctors from NYU and Columbia on treatments of pelvic pain due to endometriosis. This doctor recommended a procedure called "superior hypogastric plexus block". The procedure itself takes only about 15 minutes and it has been a blessing for me. During this procedure, the doctor basically injects a medication (bupivicane in my case) into the plexus which is located in front of your L5 vertebrae and blocks the pain fibers in that area.

In the beginning, i was going for this procedure every 2-3 months, but now i go every 5-6 months and it continues to block the pain for that long. I am not 100% pain free, but as most endometriosis sufferers know - any relief is wonderful. I would say these procedures have cut the pain in half if not more and my quality of life has increased dramatically.

This procedure is done in my doctor's office and no sedation is needed. I would highly recommend discussing this option with your doctor. I am not saying it will definitely work for you because all treatments work differently on different people, but it has helped me incredibly. If you need more information about this procedure, you can find a lot of info on the internet or feel free to ask me. I will do what i can to help.

I wish you pain free days in the future - take care! Kristen
