Re: High CA 125 after partial hysterectomy and endometriosisFrom: E. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Jul 30 18:48:32 2009
The C125 test has a high false positive rate. I think you're doing the right thing in terms of having the test repeatedly, this can show whether the level rises over time, and can indicate a potential problem. However, the test can come up positive for adenomyosis (endo of the uterus), endometriosis, ovarian cysts, PID, fibroids and pregnancy, so there could be any of those things going on. I would ask the doctor what she thinks and then ask her if she would test you again in 3 more months. If the level is still high, maybe you should ask about another lap exploration or seek another opinion with another doctor. I picked up the following information from a website: http://www.ovariancancer.jhmi.edu/ca125qa.cfm
>>However several women's reproductive disorders can cause a false positive result. Endometriosis, benign ovarian cysts, first trimester of pregnancy, and pelvic inflammatory disease all produce higher levels of CA-125.
70% of people with cirrhosis, 60% of people with pancreatic cancer, and
20%-25% of people with other malignancies have elevated levels of
CA-12
