First of all, let me say up front that I am not a medical professional
and can only give advice. If you want to specifically ask a doctor,
there is a web site where you can do that:
http://forums.obgyn.net/womens-health/
If the nurse practictitioner is suspicious that it might be endo, I
would investigate the possibility further. The reason that she put you
on the the birth control is because that is often the first thing that
doctors do when they suspect you have endo. The pill will often reduce
symptoms, that is probably why you have little swelling and no bleeding
from the incision now, because the pill is reducing the endo hormonally.
As long as you take the hormone, your symptoms will probably be under
control, but once you stop the hormone, then your symptoms will return.
I would go back to your ob/gyn and see what he says. He may want to do
a laparascopy to confirm the endo.
This is where you have to be careful. Many ob/gyns are not knowlegeable
about endo in all its forms. This is why a lot of women end up going to
endo specialists, because these specialists know what to look for and
how to remove all of the endo & not leave any behind. If even a few
small cells are left behind, the endo can 'grow' back and cause more
problems.

Endometriosis can also silently invade other organs, including the bowel
and bladder, if not properly treated hormonally or surgically. This is
why it's important to know if you have it and to get it treated.
Endo can cause problems with fertility and that would also be another
reason to get it diagnosed.
There are a lot of endo specialists who can help you with diagnosis.
Here is a list of some of them. You can check out their websites for
more information.
Dr. Cook in CA http://www.pelvicpain.com/
Dr. Lyons in Georgia http://www.thomasllyons.com/procedures.htm
Dr. Robbins in Maine http://www.endoexcision.com/
Dr. Liu in TN http://www.gyndr.com/
and Dr. Redwine http://www.endometriosistreatment.org/
There are two doctors, Dr. Orbuch and Dr. Seckin, who are in
NYC and specialize in endo. You can check them out at
ratemds.com.
There are various endo organizations and it's important to educate
yourself about this disease and how to treat it.
You may want to check out the Endometriosis Association.
They require a membership fee to join, but you can order
books and other information without joining.
You can check it out here: http://www.endometriosisassn.org/
