Re: Should I be tested for endometriosis?

It seems that you may have endo, since you say that you had painful pds., diarreah, nausea. Many women (including me) have these symptoms when they get their pd.

Also, you say the symptoms let up when you went on Seasonique (often the pill relieves the cramps) but now the cramps are starting up again and you have pain with sex (sign that maybe your body is getting so used to the constant hormone that it is no longer having a beneficial effect).

In any case, having cramps w/o a pd, with cramps bad enough to make you want to fall on the floor and pain with sex are really bad symptoms and have to be treated. If you want to be on the safe side, I would see an endo expert and see what they have to say. These symptoms are too difficult to just 'live' with without knowing exactly what is wrong. Even if you do not want to have children, the endo can still grow inside of you (if it isn't treated properly) and even start pressing on other organs and/or affecting your bowel/bladder down the road.

It is possible that you have endo, but it's important to see a doctor who is familiar with it, so that you can be properly diagnosed and treated (unfortunately, most regular gyns do not know enough about the disease to properly dianose it during a lap).

Check out some of these specialists' websites, and maybe one of them can help you:

Dr. Cook in CA http://www.pelvicpain.com/ Dr. Lyons in Georgia http://www.thomasllyons.com/procedures.htm Dr. Robbins in Maine http://www.endoexcision.com/ Dr. Liu in TN http://www.gyndr.com/ and Dr. Redwine http://www.endometriosistreatment.org/

There are two doctors, Dr. Orbuch and Dr. Seckin, who are in NYC and specialize in endo. You can check them out at ratemds.com.

You may also want to check out the Endometriosis Association. They require a membership fee to join, but you can order books and other information without joining. You can check it out here: http://www.endometriosisassn.org/
