In my opinion, I would stop calling and start writing letters, so at
least
you are leaving a paper trail.
I would write a formal letter to the hospital telling them you spoke
with the lawyer and that he requested that the hospital contact him.
Request that they tell him to cease and desist collections. (In
addition to telling them about the whole financial need thing). Make
sure you include the lawyer's name & phone # & your acct # so that they
have all the information they need. Then cc that letter to the lawyer.
Enclose a cover letter telling him that you have contacted the hospital,
and they should be in contact with him. Send all letters certified mail
w/return receipt requested. Also, if you think it is not going to be
resolved, you can always write another letter to the billing office
saying that you can only pay a small amount of money, like $10 a month,
to prevent it from going to collections.
