Re: Pain with walking/exerciseFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat May 30 23:45:10 2009
I was the same. Morning was okay, by the end of the day, the pelvic pain got worst. I spent all evenings on couch or bed. My husband did all the cooking and feeding me. I also had more pain when walking, specially on my right leg. I used heat pads, warm (or hot) shower (sometimes a few times), and electric blanket after the shower to mitigate it. Some days I used them in addition to painkiller. Sometimes the over the counter's didn't work and I need the prescribed painkiller. A doctor at ER told me to take the painkiller early. For the week of my period where my pain is extremely bad, I should not wait till the pain is bad or unbearable before taking painkiller. Take it when the pain starts and is mild. Otherwise I end up at ER having morphine when none of the painkiller (Tylenol 3, oxycocet, I couldn't naproxan due to allergy) help. It took me a few years to realize that wearing EXTREMELY loose pants AND panties during the day help quite a bit. I went as far as trying various maternity clothes to find those working for me. I sometimes need suspender to avoid button up my pants. I just couldn't have anything tied around my belly, my pelvic area, and my thighs. If this helps at all for you, don't stop there. It could get worst that it would become unmanageable again. (I have been there.) I went on trying dairy free, wheat free diet, and sugar-free for many months. It seems to help a little but then the pain was still an issue. I recently went further on macrobiotic diet with a counsellor. I only started for couple months and I couldn't say whether it would address my endo problem. As with many things, I am usually very skeptical. Yet I just have been in pain for too long (20 years+) and have seen many physicians. I figured I should consider trying alternative treatments. Meanwhile, after 2 months seeing the macrobiotic counsellor, I am doing better in most evenings. Surprising, I am not in couch every single day after work! There are some evenings I still use robaxacet. My period pain it still very bad. Yet, I could live normal life in some evenings, like cooking and walking with my husband! I didn't expect this improvement so soon as I thought the diet would take much longer before I notice any difference. I tried macrobiotic diet on my own by reading books and videos on internet for 2 months. And it didn't help at all. Then I had the counseling and followed the instructions and remedies tailored for me. The pain in the evenings started to improve. One of the remedies was the macrobiotic sweet vegetable soup to be taken at 11am and 2:30 - 3:30pm daily. Along with diet change, the soup twice a day help getting me through the day. I am not in pain in the evenings most of the time. It used to be almost every day in a month. Mind you the dairy free and wheat free diet alone is difficult enough to follow. The macrobiotic diet is even harder to pick up. I am still learning and adapting. If it were not for this crazy pain, I don't think I would ever have the persistence to learn such a difficult diet/lifestyle. Surgery helps many. Yet many still have pain after surgery. Hence I hope this would work for me. I spoke in person to two ladies with severe endo and they said they are now pain free after they changed their diet and lifestyle. I would see how it works out.
