Re: hysterctomy for endometriosis

The last thing I would ever want to do is to cause someone to mistrust or not feel confident in their doctor. Your surgeon sounds top-notch and I am sure is a very qualified gyn surgeon. I have to say, though, that his treatment plan for you is not consistent with what I know the top endo specialists in the country would propose for treatment of endometriosis. One of these doctors would not recommend hysterectomy or oophorectomy to treat endo. It is well know that these procedures are not curative for endometriosis. Before you take this drastic step, it would be easy and pretty painless to forward your records to the CEC or one of the other top excisionists. You could let them know that you have surgery scheduled so that they could look at your records as soon as possible. The surgery you have planned is irreversible and will have life-long implications. If it were me, I would want to understand all my options before taking such a drastic step. Just my two cents. Best wishes!
