I have had severe pain exactly as you described it. I vomit, sweat etc from the pain. It is brought on by sex, sometimes even the thought of sex, bowel movement or just for the hell of it it comes on out of no where. I have kept a log of food etc, to no avail. I find that if I am dehydrated it comes on. I have tried, advil, hot bath , over the lumbar area of my back, vibration, TENS electric stimulation to my lower back and all had some calming effect, but not any more. It was silent for a while after I started consistently with Yoga, but the pain is now coming more often, but less intense. I have found that i take 2 advil and stretch in a 1/2 kneeling position, the pain subsides. I believe the pain is coming from lumbar area, as I started with this muscle spasm the same time I had my first bout of siatic pain. Whether is is nerve problem induced or straight muscle spasm I do not know. I hope this helps. At Sun, 19 Jun 2005, anonymous@obgyn.net wrote: >

>Try moist heat. I have had proctalgia for many years and have tried everything imagninable to relieve the pain because it is so intense, even a swig of whisky...and I rarely dring any alchoho...but I was desperate. Then finally I discovered that moist heat relieves the pain very quickly. Many internet resources say to fill a tub with hot water and sit in it. However, by the time you do that the pain is beginning to subside on its own. I heat a moist towel in the microwave and then wrap it in another towel, or in a plastic bag with another towel around it. The moist heat helps the pain to go away much faster than anything I have ever tried.
