Re: Pain Meds forever?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Mar 29 01:04:34 2009
Amazingly, I just found out my insurance now does cover acupuncture. It didn't used to.... I don't know how else to describe the differences betweens muscle relaxers and pain killers! One relaxes muscles, the other kills pain! I don't know all the info on this stuff, but some years ago one of my doctors suggested xanax. It's an anti-anxiety med, i think, but also relaxes muscles. I took it with pain killers (i think i took OTC pain stuff at the time) and it helped relax the deep uterine muscle cramps...I couldn't drive on it, and usually fell asleep, but hey! it did help a LOT with the pain! This was not my ob/gyn who recommended it, but she didn't seem to take my pain too seriously anyway :( I don't take it now, because post-op, narcotic pain killers do the job those painful period days... I really do think some of my pain is related to serious muscle spasms from all those years....I'd like to try phys therapy...Walking still bothers me, too, at times (when I used to walk miles!) and I wonder if adhesions are making me tired too..... Hmmm...so you don't have a uterus, right? I would assume all the muscles around that area could be cramped up too....I can feel when I stand up at times that it seems like my butt is really tight, lol! It never used to feel this way. at times it feels like my organs are 'braced' for some kind of spasm. I wanted to wait until I had really healed from surgery to try phys therapy... Do the meds you take help? Have you asked the specialist for ideas on things that might be wrong? The acupuncturist I go to does trigger injections with a homeopathic anti-spasm / anti-pain liquid (I guess?) I think it does help, but I have to catch up to where I was before (I didn't go some months this winter). When they called to ask about injections, they found out my insurance does cover acu. Oh, and I did notice when I eat some of the 'no no' foods on the IC diet, my pelvic pain is worse. There's also a site that has a list of foods that can make pelvic pain worse (includes things like peanut butter). let me see if I can find it....I just started drinking coffee 1/2 and 1/2 (reg / decaf) again, which I couldn't do for a couple of years...it gave me bowel spasms nd pain, since my uterus was attached to my bowel :(.....I was so thrilled to feel almost normal drinking some coffee, but I think it might be contributing to some of the pelvic pain...sigh... I see some of the spices on the 'no' list are also in anti-oxidant supplements I take! Wow, I've had cinnamon every day for months now because it's supposed to be good for PCOS / blood sugarI really don't remember what it was like when I felt normal for more than a day in a row! I was eating peanut butter quite a bit because i had given up red meat! (arachadonic acid there...) and then my B vitamins also got low from that.... round and round! http://www.continencenurse.net/pelvic_health/articles/therapies.html This site above is pretty good, it has a mention of muscle relaxation training (i think that is what i need!) It's interesting what's mentioned here about histamines...I've had levels that tested high...vitamin c and quercetin are supposed to be natural anti-histamines, but I wonder if vit c is a problem for IC? http://www.pelvicpain.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1560&sid=74b22fc5c746d74c00a5f203149f3cd5 ooh! i also got a TENS system from HSN (not much $ at all)...I've had this used on me before for other phys therapy, I want to try it, but am a little afraid... Oh my goodness! this has happened before, I vow to eat more healthily, get some pain, and then find that a lot of the foods I've eaten are on lists like this! I don't check the list before I start the new regime, because often I feel pretty good BEFORE...and then I see that I've eaten a lot of potentially pain causing foods.... http://www.paralumun.com/bladder.htm
