Re: 'Dr Greg'From: Scarlett (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Feb 22 06:25:23 2009
There have been warnings about this guy all over endo support forums. This is a letter posted to the owner of one popular endo forum: "I received this email today from another support group leader..I'm sharing it with you so you are all aware. Obviously this man will not be allowed in this group, as it is only for women who have been diagnosed..but be careful anyway, ok, ladies? Hi ******, My name is *****, I'm a social worker in Canada who has lived with endo for the past 18 years. I've also run an internet support group (Goddesses of Endometriosis) for the past 7 years and just started blogging as a way of hopefully increasing awareness concerning this disease. I am writing to you with concerns about Dr. Gregory Smith and his approach to women within the endo community. I have already wrote a general e-mail to the EA's inbox as I'm very concerned about this individual's abuse of our suffering and desperation for answers and relief. Dr. Smith had joined my support group 1-1.5 years ago and had stated that he was a "long time advocate of endo awareness" and had decided to join the group as it "seemed to be one of the largest online". Shortly afterwards I started receiving e-mail complaints from my group members. Dr. Smith would connect with them through private e-mail and ask very specific, direct and personal questions, much of which pertained to their sex life. When I had e-mailed this person on three separate occasions, I had asked him about his specialty, his interest in endo, etc., essentially trying to dig up any information I could. I never received a response from this individual, but he did back-off from posting general messages to the support group. Yesterday I had the fortunate chance to speak with a fellow endo survivor who has been approached by this person. This has renewed my fears about what Dr. Smith may be up to. He had once again contacted this individual privately, but then went a step further and said that if she "provides the health insurance number and detailed medical history" that he could locate a specialist for her. This individual felt that Dr. Smith was a "complete pervert" and refused to give her information, but it makes me wonder how many other women he has approached. This simply is not right, and feels to me to be a huge violation of our private and painful journey. I am asking you to take note of this as I would hate to see other women with the disease go through this experience. I am also wondering if you would mind if I posted this story on the group site? I want to get the word of caution out there as so many women might possibly be taken of advantage of in the future. Take care and hope you are well," I hope they catch this creep who is getting off on women suffering with a horrible disease.
