Re: shatavariFrom: JenH (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Dec 29 18:50:19 2008
I took shatavari, 1000mg/day, for three months and stopped when we started TTC as I wasn't sure how safe it is for pregnancy. When I stopped, my symptoms didn't return in the one cycle I had before getting pregnant. I planned to try it for at least two months to see if it would help (if it doesn't, no point in staying on) and it worked fantastic for me. It's from Indian Ayurvedic tradition, and an Ayurvedic herbalist would probably tell you there's no harm in staying on it long term, as long as your symptoms don't start to get worse. Many Indian women use it their whole adult lives, as it's supposed to be good for general women's health. As someone pointed out in another thread, it does contain phyto-estrogen. So if your symptoms don't improve or worsen, get off it right away.
