Re: current chocolate ovaian cyct and endometriosisFrom: bren (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Oct 26 14:30:33 2008
Hi Heba, I was wondering if you had a laparoscopy to diagnose endometriosis and remove any implants, cysts, adhesions, fibroids, etc...You mentioned that you had a cesarian section operation, but did not mention what was removed during this surgery. It sounds unusual to have a cesarian section for endometriosis as laparoscopy surgery is the common procedure to diagnose and cut or burn out any endometriosis or anything else that's found during surgery. The best way to remove any endo or cysts (or other) is by having an experienced endo surgeon excise (cut) out anything that's found during surgery so that there is less chance for it to grow back. It also sounds unusual that your doctor wouldn't want to put you on any hormonal medications (as you stated) to help treat your endo symptoms. I am 30 years old as well and not married and suffer from a lot of pelvic pain along w/ daily excruciating sciatic pain and fatigue that is worse before and at the onset of my period. I had lap surgery not too long ago and because my surgeon is not an experienced endometriosis specialist, I still suffer from the symptoms and pain of endometriosis or adenomyosis along w/ the sciatic pain. Endometriosis can even be colorless rather than the normal powder burn red/brown endo that any obgyn specialist/surgeon can detect during lap. However, if they are not experienced in endometriosis or adenomyosis, then it can easily be missed during laparscopy surgery especially when the "obvious" problems are found and removed while the less obvious is left untreated and then many women can continue to suffer. As for me, I have negative side effects w/ birth control and when my doctor wanted to put me on Lupron, something I said made him change his mind quickly (strange) and then had me first on a higher dose of Yasmin Birth Control which I had to stop because of the side effects I got from it and it made my symptoms worse (moody, lethargic, didn't help the pain, etc)...Now he has me on progesterone only birth control (medroxyprogesterone 5mg aka provera), which has not given me any negative side effects. Since estrogen is the hormone that endo feeds off of and what I call the "moody and emotional" hormone, I do much better w/ the progesterone only pill. It also helps shorten my period and makes my period lighter as I usually have heavy bleeding w/ clots and goes on for a prolonged period of time. It's also supposed to help shrink any endo and can help lessen the pain from endometriosis. If you are concerned w/ your fertility, I would ask your doctor to give you a fertility test. Having endometriosis doesn't always mean that you are going to be infertile although women w/ endometriosis have a higher chance of being infertile than those w/o endo. There are many women I know of who were blessed to have children even w/ endometriosis, but I believe that the longer you wait w/ endo, the harder it will be to get pregnant. It also sounds like you need to find a good doctor especially an endometriosis specialist to help you w/ your symptoms and pain. This can all cause depression and don't ever let any doctor tell you that your depression is causing pain as some doctors like to make up such nonsense and many times the vulnerable women will actually start to believe what their doctors tell them about this and give them less hope. You need to be assertive w/ your doctor and remember that you know your body better than anyone else and the doctor should listen to you. If not, find another doctor who will. If you are in Kuwait, then where is your family? Maybe you can find an endometriosis specialist who can perfrom a laparoscopy surgery where your family lives so that you can also be with your family so that they can take care of you. It's hard to go through something like this alone. If you post on this forum of where your family is located or even maybe some might know some in Kuwait (but I have not heard of one there), then this forum is great in helping you find a good endometriosis specialist in the area(s) you can get to. I hope you feel better soon. Good luck. *Bren*
