Re: Constant bleeding with birth control

Hello, I was tried on only 2 different types of birth control..first one was right before I had any idea of possibly having endometriosis. It was during a papsmear & discussion of how I had heavy bleeding w/ each period & lots of pain/cramping...even the papsmear was painful, but the gyn didn't even realize that this was not normal. I was given microgestin FE to control the pain & bleeding & pmdd symptoms, but it just gave me negative side effects & everything went downhill from there on. Then I saw an obgyn specialist after suspection of endometriosis & he "unofficially" diagnosed me through a physcial exam & was first going to put me on lupron, then changed his mind & had me try Yasmin. That gave me negative side effects as well & seemed to worsen my symptoms. Finally, he decided to try me on progesterone only pill since any extra estrogen seemed to make my symptoms worse. I am now on medroxyprogesterone?-don't know the spelling, but basically the depo provera pills 5mg, which is progesterone only. If on it continuously, it's supposed to stop your period. It can also cause breakthrough bleeding, but I have not had any breakthrough bleeding w/ it. I take it 15 days after my 1st day of my period & take it for 15 days, stop, & then my period starts w/in 48 hrs. Then the cycle starts over, I count 15 days & start again & stop again. By the 2nd month on it, it did make my periods a lot lighter & I bleed for only 3 days rather than 7-10 days & used to have heavy bleeding & pain the first 3 days & pain before my period & ovulation time. So it did help me. Everyone is different. Depo provera can be given in pill form or injections & comes in different doses. It does also seem to help w/ my pms/pmdd symptoms since it's progeterone only & estrogen is the "emotional" hormone. I am also very sensitive to medication especially birth control & antidepressants (which I was tried on to help pms/pmdd & pain-but seemed to have adverse reactions on me-like it did the opposite of what it's supposed to do for you). Hope this helps.
