Re: Laparoscopy versus 'watch and wait'From: kathryn (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Jul 30 00:32:47 2008
It is really important that you find a doc who is an expert who deals with endo all the time, and who knows what to look for in surgery. That said, I have heard that if you want to get pregnant, your best bet is to have an excision surgery and try right after that surgery. The type of pill you are taking might be causing the cysts to grow. Ask your doctor if you can try another type of pill or maybe just a progesterone treatment, or an iud. See if any of these methods help cut down on the cyst growth. If you are on a continuous pill, maybe you can switch to a 3 week pill where you actually have a pd. You can also have an ultrasound every six months to track the cyst and see if it increases in size or not. Sometimes cysts do get "reabsorbed" into the body. I can't say whether or not the cyst would cause damage to your ovary, but maybe trying a different hormonal treatment and tracking it will at least give you and your doctor some idea if it is getting bigger and maybe more likely to cause problems. If you do decide to get a laporascopy, make sure it is with an endo expert or a doc well versed in endo. Also be aware that after a laporoscopy, you will be more likely to have adhesions, which can cause pain and also affect your organs (which can also affect fertility down the line). Kathryn
