Re: Proctalgia Fugax

I have had this condition for most of my adult life. I have always been too embarrassed to even talk to a doctor about my symptoms. I was diagnosed with endo of the cul-se-sac in December and am quite certain that it is the cause of my pain. The endo was cauterized at that time, and while I only received short-term relief of my other endo symptoms (pelvic and low back pain) the sudden excruciating anal pain hasn't returned. I am having excision surgery soon and hope to never be embarrassed by it again. Mine doesn't happen in the night, it happens during the day and has caused me to jump out of chairs and nearly scream in public places. Just lovely...

>>>Try moist heat. I have had proctalgia for many years and have tried everything imagninable to relieve the pain because it is so intense, even a swig of whisky...and I rarely dring any alchoho...but I was desperate. Then finally I discovered that moist heat relieves the pain very quickly. Many internet resources say to fill a tub with hot water and sit in it. However, by the time you do that the pain is beginning to subside on its own. I heat a moist towel in the microwave and then wrap it in another towel, or in a plastic bag with another towel around it. The moist heat helps the pain to go away much faster than anything I have ever tried.
