Re: Endo after complete hysterectomy - still have symptoms. From: Sherri (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat May 31 13:28:37 2008
YES! You can still have endo after a total hysterectomy even if you DON'T take any estrogen. That's my case. I had a total abdominal hyst. in 2004, and I never experienced even one day of pain relief. Endo can feed off of oestrogen which (I can't remember exactly how or why right now, but you can google it) is just the estrogen that your body and/or endo produces. It may only be a small amount, but we all know that is all that endo needs to continue to grow and spread. Naturally, if you take estrogen it will continue to respond to that if all the endo was not excised. I can't find a doctor that has any clue what to do with me now! Because I have had a total hyst. my gyn office acts like it is impossible to treat me for endo, and the gyn has literally told me that he does not know what to do for me. He referred me to pain management a few years ago, and I do get pain meds from them, but every 4 weeks, I have a horrible flare-up of pain that I can't control with my meds, and I end up at the ER. My gyn agrees that it has to be hormonal, and it is definately cyclical. He referred me to another surgeon who also said that he was not comfortable doing another surgery on me, especially because I have nerve damage in my pelvis and lower right abdomen due to the 6 surgeries I've had to "treat" my endo. I'm about ready to give up looking for answers also! I'm just trying to get through each day the best I can right now...and it's not going too well. Good luck to you!
