Re: Has anyone had their presacral nerve ablated? From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri May 16 21:55:37 2008
I had a pre-sacral neurectomy (cutting out/removal) which, I think, is a bit different than an ablation. Mine was done in 2000, also at Emory University Hospital by a male doctor, who is no longer there. He was the head of the reproductive endochronology department at Emory. I, personally, found this doctor to be very arrogant and dismissive of my complaints of pain localized mainly in my lower right abdominal/pelvic region. This surgery is truly only helpful for those suffering mainly mid-line/uterine pain and cramping, which was not my case. This procedure did not help me or my pain at all! In fact, my pain has increased since then because the surgeon cut the WRONG NERVE. I now suffer from illio-inguinal nerve damage that is permanent. The pre-sacral neurectomy is supposedly very helpful in controlling mid-line pain, but is not effective for any pain that radiates to either the left or right side. Mainly helpful for cramping and pain coming from the uterus, but is not as helpful for pain coming from the right or left ovary. I'm happy for those that have had this procedure/surgery and have gotten positive results from it, but for anyone contemplating this, PLEASE do as much research as possible before agreeing to this surgery. If at all possible, talk to other patients that have had this surgery by the same doctor before making any decision! I honestly wish that I had never had this done as it has caused me even more problems than I originally sought help for!! Regardless of what the doctor/surgeon says about this procedure, it is a very risky surgery, and the success rate is not that promising. Sorry to sound so negative about this, but I want you to hear both sides, good and bad. Good luck to you in whatever you decide!
