Re: weight gain...new to groupFrom: Nikki (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Apr 26 17:08:03 2008
Hi Stacey, I haven't been on Low-Ogestrel, but I was on Lutera (it's a low estrogen bcp) and I gained weight. I watch my weight very carefully b/c I'm in line for the local police academy and they have very strict weight requirements. Needless to say, I was upset when I gained weight from the Lutera (about 6lbs. in a week! --thank God that was all I gained!!). I worked out and I actually ate less than normally on bcp due to a constant upset stomach. My weight gain turned out to actually be water weight. I took water pills but they brought my blood pressure down too low. I felt awful on Lutera. Even though I was completely healthy for my height I still felt fat, and it really brought me down. My doc didn't comment on the weight b/c he knew I suffered a lot of bad side effects from it and I had just had surgery. Still, I was really bummed. Maybe you just need to try a different brand of bcp. Sometimes that helps. It can take a couple of months to see if the side effects allievate any, so it is time consuming to find the right bcp for you. Do some research on it. I personally like to check out askapatient.com, but there's also Revolution Health. And your doc shouldn't just brush off your concerns. Weight gain can be dangerous. I was concerned about my weight gain and its affect on my surgery (too much abdominal fat or too little abdominal fat can make it more difficult for the surgeon). BTW I also struggled to control my weight when on Femara and Aygestin. I'm in NY, so I don't know any doctor down your way. Goodluck with everything!
