Re: Lap success stories!From: Nikki (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Apr 26 15:02:53 2008
By the time I was diagnosed with stage IV endo and two chocolate cysts, I had already scored number one on the physical and written exam for my local police department, and I was preparing for The State Police physical exam. I ran the 1.5 mile several times daily, did chin-ups, pull-ups, full body push-up, sit-ups, wall scaling, and weight training (100+ pounds). And at the exam, I was able to kick all of the guys butts into oblivion :) After my laparoscopy I wanted to start at a beginner's routine, and then return to my normal routine slowly. Let me tell: take your time healing. I told my doc about my plan and he said if I worked out before my body was ready I would end up with a hernia... which would pretty much disqualify me from the police force, and my dream. It's been a month since my laparoscopy and I've only just started returning to a workout routine. I had a lot of work done during my surgery though (stage IV lesions all the way up to my diaphragm, two cysts, adhesions), and I had a bad reaction to my medication. Not to mention my doc also accidently severed a big abdominal muscle so it took me longer. I can't believe how much that laparoscopy drained from me. I was in excellent condition before surgery, and now I've lost a lot of muscle mass... not too happy about that, but the surgery was neccessary. Just remember you'll get back to your normal routine eventually. Just take care of your body and don't push yourself too hard too early. It took me months to develop the muscle tone needed to excel at the physical, and if it takes me several months to get it back so be it! Goodluck with your surgery!
