Re: ECTOPIC ENDOMETRIOSISFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Mar 31 16:48:16 2008
Unfortunatly a hysterectomy alone is not a cure. Think of it like this. If you have cancer on your reproductive organs and it speads to your other organs and you only remove your reproductive organs than it will still be everywhere else and continue to grow. Endometriosis is most often found on other organs in addition to the reproductive organs and can sometimes be so small that most doctors if they are not specialists can miss it. The best way to treat endometriosis is through excision surgery preformed the same way as a lap in which it is excised out instead of lasered out. Laser just burns off the endo and it does not completely remove all the endo that's why it can get worse after a lap.In addition laser causses scarring which is a whole nother problem in itself. The more laser laps the more scarring = more pain. If you go to a well trained excision specialist or endo specialist they will be able to excise all the endo out with a very very minimal chance of it coming back without removing your reproductive organs. You can combine excision surgery with a hysterectomy, but most endo specialists do not find it necessary to remove the reproductive organs since they can remove the endo from every organ therefore there is none to spread in most cases. Hope this helps it was a while before someone told me about excision surgery. I did not realize that there where different types of laps and a better way to treat this horrible disease.
