Moveable Cyst on Lower Back + Lupron + Colonoscopy...From: Endo (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Mar 30 17:27:26 2008
Hi ladies, I am 25 years old, diagnosed with endo almost five years ago. I think it's stage III or IV, depending on how much has come back after the lap in 2003 (it was all over my uterus, ovaries, bowel, bladder, and colon). Immediately after the lap, my Ob-Gyn (a fantastic woman who has treated me for five years) wanted to get me on the Lupron immediately. My insurance refused to cover it. Unfortunately, my doctor had no choice other than to treat me with continuous oral contraceptives. That worked okay for awhile, but over the past year, my situation has deteriorated steadily. I usually have upset stomachs and diarrhea whenever I get my period, or the week before. Two months ago, I had a period and it was like the stomach cramping and diarrhea just stuck around even after the period ended. After about three miserable weeks of that, I called my doctor. It seemed as though every single thing I ate made me sick, and the only time my stomach didn't hurt was when it was empty. I was exhausted because any food I ate went straight through me. My doctor did a full pelvic exam and pap, tested for H Pylori and Celiac (and, for good measure, a bladder infection which I get regularly thanks to interstitial cystitis). Everything came back negative. She said, "I think it's time we try to get you on the Lupron now." Fortunately, because the drug has been around for five years, my insurance company now covers it--provided I pay for it upfront and they reimburse me a few weeks later ($675 a shot! ouch!). I purchased the drug, brought it to my doctor, and she administered it. This was about 10 days ago. By this time, I was so sick to my stomach that I was barely eating, and what I did eat consisted mostly of crackers and other dry foods. My Ob-Gyn referred me to a wonderful G.I. doctor, who I saw on Friday. He asked a lot of questions, looked me over, decided he wanted to do a colonoscopy as soon as he could to rule out anything like Crohn's or colitis (which runs in my family) and then took an hour to answer all of my questions. The colonoscopy is set for Wednesday morning. I'm excited to get it over with, although we all feel the recent pain is a result of all the endo on my bowels. Yesterday, I noticed a meatball-sized lump in my lower back, just to the left of my spine and just above my pelvic bone. It feels like a cyst, and almost feels like I can move it around. There may be a smaller one right below it. I'm really scared, and Google searches for anything similar have been kind of fruitless. I intend to call my doctor about it tomorrow morning but I'm not sure which doctor to call. It does hurt if I push it hard. I had a massage therapist look at it yesterday, and she said she felt it was just a cyst. But I'm noticing soreness in the muscles around the bump. Does anyone know what this could be or has had anything similar? I'm just looking for someone I can relate to until I can talk to a doctor tomorrow. Thanks very much. Happiness and Health,
