Re: adenomyosis still hurting after depo shotFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Mar 29 07:46:31 2008
I know someone who is on the Mirena coil for adenomyosis and is having great success. As far as the Lupron, I would give it at least another month to see if it helps. The thing with Lupron is, it doesn't work immediately to suppress hormones. There are two phases involved. The first phase (two to four weeks) stimulates the ovaries causing them to produce more estradiol. In phase two the messenger hormones that tell the ovaries to produce estrogen decline dramatically, causing the menopausal like effects. So you may actually feel worse the first month because you are exposed to even more estrogen, the hormone that fuels endometriosis/adenomyosis. The pamphlet that comes with Depo Lupron should explain this (or you can find it online). It took me a good six weeks to begin to notice the decline in my hormone levels and relief of endometriosis pain. However, I did still have a light period each month throughout the six months I was on it (very uncommon). Lupron can provide temporary relief and give you some idea of what surgical menopause might be like (for me the latter has been much worse though) but of course is a bandaid solution for endometriosis/adenomyosis and I have yet to hear of a case where someone was cured of either from taking Lupron. Hang in there!
