Re: Does endo come back worse after lap? From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Mar 29 03:25:40 2008
YES! Endo can (and does) come back worse after a lap! The endo is actually not "coming back", the fact is for most of us that continue to have such bad pain after surgery, it is b/c not all of the endo was completely removed-excised (cut out) and if it was lazered or cauterized, you will still have pain because when the docs try to "burn" it out/off, it only removes a portion of the endo growths. The "roots" of the endo are still there and will just continue to regrow until they are all excised/cut out. This is also the reason that many still have bad pain after a hyst. even with removal of the ovaries. The docs remove the organs, but may leave spots of endo behind. Also, most regular ob-gyns are not well versed enough in the many different appearances of endo, like the endo specialists are, so they may leave some endo spots where they are b/c they simply don't recognize it. There is also microscopic endo lesions/growths that aren't removed b/c they aren't visible for the doc to remove them. This can also happen when the endo is "hiding" in certain hard to get at places, ex. behind the ovaries or uterus, cul-de-sac, other organs, etc. Of course, there is always the all too common scar tissue and adhesions that endo alone can cause, and with all surgeries we run the risk of developing more scar tissue. SO, there can be different reasons that an endo patients pain can continue or "come back" after surgery. UGH!! I really HATE this disease and the hell that comes with it!!!
