Re: endo and weight problemsFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Mar 13 09:11:05 2008
Jen, Hi there! I also gained a LOT of weight during my many different "treatments" for my endo. I know that some of the weight gain has got to be that I simply am unable to exercise like I should. Also, taking birth control pills, and of course, the anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds they like to prescribe to "help manage" my chronic pain (Prozac, Elavil, Xanax, etc.)... all seem to contribute to my gaining weight. In my case,(maybe you too) hormones play a big part. I've never heard of a doctor (or anyone) telling a patient that is concerned about losing weight that it won't matter what she does, she won't be able to drop some pounds until all the hormones are completely gone. Something about that does not sound right to me. I have heard of a lot of endo patients that take drugs like Lupron, Synarel, or Danazol, and the negative side-effects those drugs can cause, even when all of the drug/hormones are discontinued, so I guess if it was the hormones or side-effects of treatment that caused the weight gain, it may be possible to lose that weight once you're off all the hormone/drug therapy. Sorry that I don't have any answers for you! Best of luck to you!! :)
