Katie,

Unfortunately, what you are experiencing is pretty standard and very common with regards to the pain meds! I'm so sorry that you are going through this, too! I was dx 13-14 years ago with endo and IC (interstital cystitis) which are both chronic pain conditions, and I still have tons of trouble getting pain meds. Actually, I was referred to a pain management doctor a while back, and that has been one of the best moves for me. It took along time (years) and many surgeries before I was given this option, though. My gyn, also the one who did 2 of my surgeries including my total abdominal hyst. was the one to refer me. He was always very good about giving me pain meds pre-op and post-op, but once I had a total hysterectomy, he said that he could no longer write me for pain meds due to all the laws and what-not, so he referred me to a pain doctor. Has anyone else experienced this? Once I had no reproductive organs left, my ob-gyn can not treat me...I have to see a primary doc, pain doc, and an urologist for my IC and occasional kidney stones. It's crazy because my ob-gyn was the ONE that had been with me from the beginning, and knew exactly what my situation was! Now, I get the run-around everytime I have ANY problem. My pain doc says that she is only treating my pain and can't or won't do any bloodwork, x-rays, etc., my primary sends me to my uro, who sends me to my gyn, who says he can't treat me. UGH!! Exactly what am I supposed to do!?

Anyway, I would ask every doctor you see for a referral to a pain doctor, if they are refusing to treat your pain. Honestly, I do not understand how these docs expect us to live with all this pain and other problems that endo and even pain alone can cause, and no one will help us! None of them give a damn! It's not their problem and sadly the US has turned the war on drugs into a war on doctors prescribing routine pain meds for chronic pain diseases, and patients like us that take narcotics. It is just not realistic at all to continue to suggest Motrin or Aleve for the type of pain we are living with! So, apparently, even being hospitalized due to pain like you were is not a reason to get pain meds? What the hell!!?? I personally, have been treated so badly by so many doctors and nurses that I get realy ugly real quick with them...not that it helps at all, but at least I feel like I am advocating for myself. Healthcare in this country is a joke, and sadly, patients like us seem to be the punchline. I wish I had better input for you, but I do understand completely your situation. Good luck and please do look into pain management doctors. Of course, there are plenty of people that have horror stories about that too. My poor father is one of those, so I see it from both perspectives. Hope something I've said will be useful to you!
