Re: endometriosis to Julie, maybe try Mirena? From: jeepster (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Jan 29 10:37:44 2008
HI Wendy, THe Mirena IUD's are being used more and more to help decrease the S&S of endo because the progesterone is supposed to decrease the lining of the uterus. Within 3 months a lot of women don't have a period at all or their periods are a lot more lighter. HOWEVER - it doesn't work for everyone. I still have had periods - heavy ones and increasing pain. It has been horrible! I had the Mirena put in one month before my endo diagnosis. I wanted it to help decrease my painful, long and heavy periods. Had a lap a month later and my doc found the endo. We left the Mirena in place because of the benefits. Every thing I have seen is that usually within about 3 months you should be getting full benefits from the Mirena. Now I am starting on Lupron - hopefully it will work well for me. I guess in the end what I am saying it has a lot of potiential to help women with endo, but it may not help as much we'd like - I was really hanging my hat on it a few months ago and was sorely disappointed. But at least it does provide BC coverage for women who do need that who have to be worried about that who can still get pregnant, and it is dependable and reliable. Those are good things women can count on.
