Re: Is it all in my head?

Find a new doctor immediately. This doctor is infuriating! Endometriosis is a real and debilitating disease. If you have had ovarian cysts that rupture and make you sick, you most likely have this disease. What you describe are classic symptoms. Not ALL cysts are typical. You may have chocolate cysts which are really just an advanced form of endometriosis, and they need to be removed - they don't go away on their own and they recur. I know, because I have these and they are absolutely horrible. This disease can play tricks on your mind - you can feel fine for a week or two and then WHAMMO! you can barely walk. Do yourself a favor, and have the lap with an endo excision specialist. That way if they do find endo, you can get it removed properly. Regular OB/GYN's do NOT know how to treat this disease properly, and often times they do more damage than good when they do a lap. Best of luck to you, and any pain that you have is NOT in your head. It is your body = do not accept less than proper treatment. Doctors who say this to their patients are incompetent and belittling at best. Why would they tell their patient it is all in their mind? Makes no sense. Maybe it is because they are incompetent and unable to properly treat and/or diagnose this disease?? Would you tell someone with another disease like cancer or diabetes that it is all in their heads? Of course not. However, because endo is not fully understood or recognized, this unfortunately does happen from time to time.

Check out the endodocs@yahoogroups website to get referrals to a proper doctor, and good luck. I have learned that you MUST listen to your body, and deal with this disease quickly - before it gets out of hand. By ignoring it and accepting that it is "all in our head" - we continue to allow the disease to progress and we do not get rid of it. Good luck to you.
