i'm very confused as to what to do next...From: Emily (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Jan 24 18:35:47 2008
Long story short: October 2007, I had a large (about 4 inch) cyst on my ovary that ruptured. Having no idea what it was, I went to the hospital and was told what it was, and that i had a few others on my other ovary. Immediately after, I began to take birth control pills to control my ovulation. Soon after that, I was having HORRENDOUS side effects to oral estrogen and external estrogen (the patch). Even with the lowest dose, I would be throwing up 2 or 3 hours after taking it, and continue throwing up for 10-12 hours afterwards. I only did that twice (thankfully). After that, I began to take progestin only pills. Those have not worked for me so far. I bled for a month and a week, and I'm having every side effect possible. I also have just learned today that I have another large cyst on my right ovary. I'm a competitive horseback rider and dancer, I just honestly don't have time to wait and "sleep it off". I'm getting extremely annoyed with the pain and I don't know if something else is happening. Also, I'm very bloated (I'm extremely muscular and slender so it's very scary to see my stomach out this far) and I can NOT fit into any of my clothes! Anything rubbing against my belly hurts so bad. I'm also only 15, and I can't sit down all day and try to learn, then go ride my horse after school with this pain. The way the other cyst ruptured is partly because I'm so active. I'm in great shape, and very young, so I can't let this hold me back. I'm ALSO scared that this one will rupture.... What I'm really asking is, is there anything I can do to PREVENT the cysts from forming? I thought the progestin only pills would help, but they're not. Also...is there anyway that maybe I can "outgrow" my extreme intolerance to estrogen? And finally, with my active lifestyle, would it just be better and easier to have it removed? Thank you for reading.
