Re: Hormone therapy after surgeryFrom: andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Nov 27 18:30:17 2007
Yes, it is true. Progesterone supresses estrogen some, which helps endo to not grow. Your doctor knows what he's doing! Some doctors have their patients take estrogen for hormone replacement, the wrong thing, then the endo just grows right back from feeding off the estrogen! You have the choice though, to take synthetic progesterone, which is called Progestin or natural progesterone, which is called bio-identical progesterone. I opted for the natural, because i had a severe hormone imbalance years ago. The progesterone was great & saved me. It got rid of about 20 awful estrogen-dominance symptoms I was having. It also keeps hot flashes away. If your estrogen and progesterone are not in balance, it is called estrogen-dominance and that can cause fatigue, depression, mood swings, yeast infection...all kinds of other junk. Progestin is a one-size-fits-all kind of pill. Natural Progesterone is milligram measured and made into capsules to custom-fit exactly how much you need. You can only get them at compounding pharmacies. Hopefully, your doctor will be ok with this. Some conventional docs don't know much about bio-identicals and won't prescribe it. You can find a pharmacy near you, by typing in compounding pharmacy and the city or state you live in.
