Re: BC pills to KeiraFrom: andrea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Oct 19 19:46:02 2007
Keira, Finally, some of the best docs out there are starting to see that BC pills make endo worse. I think pills made me worse. Endo is supposed to be an "estrogen dominance" disease, where a lot of women start off having too much estrogen at puberty, then taking the pill, makes it even higher. The endo and any foreign cells feed off the estrogen. I think if girls got their hormones balanced at puberty, maybe took natural progesterone to balance things, the endo would not have the chance to grow in there for years and years. That is what my general practitioner has told me and that's what I believe as well. I think taking bc for a while for actual Birth Control is fine, but all the doctors who stuck us on the pill for 20 years to "fix" our periods, made our endo worse. Now, I cannot conceive, all the pills make me just bleed indefinately and i need a lap surgery and maybe a partial hysterectomy. I am scared and cannot make a for sure decision as of yet. A lot of doctors say that getting your hormones checked is unnecessary if you are not close to menopause, but it totally helped me, 5 years ago when I got my hormones checked and balanced. They were really a mess! Having nearly no progesterone in my body, was making me feel like I was 80 years old! If I don't take progesterone everyday, I get hot flashes, fatigue, hair falling out...and I'm only 36. I wish I would've found the progesterone when I was 17, and I think I would not be in the situation I'm in now. If your doctor won't check your hormones, that is a sign of a bad, uncaring doctor, because a lot of endo pain and symptoms are related to whether or not your hormones are in balance. Hope my info helped you some...
