Anyone have experience with this pain med?????

My doctor prescribed nortriptylene to try to help with the chronic pain i've been having (i also take vicodin as needed and salsalate which is like naproxen)...I have taken it for almost a month and am feeling horrible...I am willing to try anything at this point and wonder if anyone has ever had success with this medicine... I guess I am looking to see if the side effects are worth it and if I need to be patient...I am supposed to increase the dose by 10 mg each week and when I hit 30 mg, I started to feel nauseous, ears ringing, slurring and really weird mentally such as bad dreams and feeling really agitated...I am usually really calm and easy going and now I am really short tempered...the doctor put me back down to 20 mg, but I still feel gross.... Is this medicine worth it? Has it helped anyone? If yes, how long did it take to see the result...Any info is greatly appreciated...thanks so much for listening...i'm so sick of this pain...I think the point was to give me a non-narcotic alternative, but this med has WAY more bad effects than taking a few vicodin each day...
