Re: covery after LaparoscopyFrom: D (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Sep 26 20:54:35 2007
I had the same reaction as anonymous, mainly because I had excision surgery at the end of July and it took a good six weeks until I was doing "normal" stuff, and I only went back to work fulltime this week (and I'm feeling good! the pain is gone!). Honestly, I think my recovery took somewhat longer than many - my endo lesions were small, but widespread which meant he had to remove quite a bit of peritoneum. I also had a uterine suspension, where the ligaments are sutured to pull the uterus forward (mine was retroverted). I didn't have deep pockets of endo, but a lot of it was down deep in the cul-de-sac area. In my case, I was really sick before the surgery - I was throwing up at least a couple times a week, running low grade fevers almost daily, and having a lot of pain as well as fatigue. It's not just about getting over the surgery, your body may also have a lot of healing to do just from being sick for so long! Have you discussed with your doctor what they will do if they find endo on your bowels or bladder? Will they be able to remove it, or have a doctor who can assisting? Are they doing excision (cutting it out), or burning it off? If they are going to burn it off I would seriously consider cancelling and finding a doctor who can do skilled excision. Burning endo off does not work very well, it often doesn't remove it all, and it "comes back" (if you can really say that something that was never gone can come back!) I don't mean to be negative, but I do hope you will make sure your doctor can do for you what you want! One week is just not much time for healing after surgery. I had a lap in June 2006 with an obgyn who couldn't find any endo and didn't even bother to do any biopsies - it was just two incisions with absolutely no work done internally - and even that took me a week to get over! In any case, I wish you the best of luck!
